Aesthetic Dental Fillings

Tooth-coloured fillings that repair decay or damage and blend in with your natural teeth.

09 / 12 · Alanya Dental Help

Aesthetic dental fillings, also called composite or tooth-coloured fillings, are restorations that repair teeth damaged by decay, chips or wear using a material that matches the natural shade of the tooth. At Alanya Dental Help, our dental clinic in Alanya, aesthetic fillings are our standard choice for treating cavities, because they restore function while remaining practically invisible. They can also be used to repair small chips on front teeth.

Composite resin is bonded directly to the tooth, which means less healthy tooth structure usually needs to be removed than with traditional amalgam fillings. For larger cavities, a laboratory-made ceramic inlay or onlay can be a stronger alternative. During your free consultation, Dt. Duygu Gürleyen checks your teeth, explains which option suits each tooth and gives you practical advice on preventing new decay.

When do you need a filling?

Early decay often causes no pain, so routine check-ups and X-rays help us find and treat cavities while they are still small. A filling is typically needed for:

  • Cavities caused by tooth decay
  • Small chips or fractures
  • Worn edges or exposed tooth necks
  • Old fillings that are discoloured or leaking
  • Closing small gaps for cosmetic reasons

Advantages of tooth-coloured fillings

Composite fillings can be matched to the shade of your tooth and shaped to restore its natural form. Because the material bonds to the tooth, it helps support the remaining structure, and treatment is usually completed in a single visit. Composite contains no mercury.

Composite filling, inlay or onlay?

For small and medium cavities, a direct composite filling is usually ideal. When a large part of the tooth is missing, a ceramic inlay or onlay made in the laboratory may be more durable and keep the shape of the tooth better. If the damage is very extensive, a crown may be recommended instead.

Caring for your fillings

Fillings last longest when the surrounding tooth stays healthy. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth, limit sugary snacks and drinks and attend regular check-ups. Composite can pick up stains over time, especially from coffee, tea and smoking, but its surface can often be polished again.

Fillings are among the easiest treatments to fit into a holiday. If you need a few fillings, or chip a tooth while visiting, our clinic in Alanya can usually treat you within one or two appointments. It is also a good opportunity for a full check-up as part of your dental treatment in Turkey.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do composite fillings last?

With good oral hygiene, composite fillings can last many years. Their lifespan depends on the size of the filling, your bite, habits such as grinding and how well new decay is prevented.

Should I replace my old amalgam fillings?

Amalgam fillings that are intact do not necessarily need to be replaced. We usually recommend replacement when a filling is cracked, leaking or has decay around it, or when you would like a more natural appearance.

Does getting a filling hurt?

Small fillings can sometimes be done without anaesthesia. For deeper cavities we use local anaesthesia, so you should feel only pressure and vibration.

Can I eat straight after a composite filling?

Composite is hardened with a light during the appointment, so the filling is set when you leave. If you had anaesthesia, wait until the numbness wears off before eating so that you do not bite your cheek or tongue.

Why does my tooth feel sensitive after a filling?

Mild sensitivity to cold or pressure for a few days is common, particularly after deep fillings. If it lasts longer or your bite feels high, contact us so that we can check and adjust it.
